Jack Howard Scholl

Jack Howard Scholl passed away at home with his loving family in Austin, TX at the age of 75 on August 19, 2021. His wife, Judy, and their four children, Jenny, Jeremy, Joni and Jaime were all together by his side.

Jack was born and grew up in Louisville, KY, the son of Howard Otto Scholl and Ester Mildred Bane along with his sister, Sharon Coop. His parents instilled in them a foundation of honesty, work ethic, precision, and the value of perseverance. His fondest childhood memories were spending time at his local YMCA and visiting his aunts and uncles’ farms in Illinois each summer. Jack’s love for science lead him to a prominent career in engineering after receiving his BS in Physics and MS in Semiconductor Physics from the University of Illinois.

Little did Jack know that he would begin two lifelong love affairs on the same day: September 2, 1969. This Tuesday morning, he began his career in semiconducting at Texas Instruments and happened to sit next to a beautiful young woman named Judy while completing new employee paperwork. Within six weeks they were engaged and on Valentine’s Day 1970 the two lovebirds were married. What followed is 51 years of adventures.

After marrying, Jack and Judy started a family and purchased their first home in Plano, TX. Jack was soon promoted within TI and the family transferred to Lubbock. It wasn’t long before Jack received a lifetime opportunity working for Motorola Semiconductor in Austin. Jack was given the responsibility of overseeing wafer semiconductor fabrication for Austin’s premiere semiconductor plant, MOS3. Jack was then awarded a vice presidency at Motorola where he made many friends worldwide working closely with the top engineering minds in the United States, Japan, Scotland, France and South Korea. Many felt his dedicated leadership as distinguished during his 33 years serving the organization. Semiconductor physics and engineering remained his intellectual passion until his retirement in 2012 at the age of 66.

One of Jack’s true lifetime pleasures was sailing. Many cherished years were spent as a family sailing on Lake Travis teaching his young children how to navigate the waters. Jack took to golf at an early age, and he continued to love the game for the entirety of his life. He loved playing more rounds of golf than could ever be counted.

Jack and Judy travelled the world together to such places as Australia, New Zealand, and Russia. They loved being with their close friends and spent countless nights laughing and playing bridge. To those who knew him, Jack was defined as a genuine man of principle and integrity. His likeable, kind and humble nature is what made him special to so many people.

One of Jack’s greatest life achievements and his proudest accomplishment are his children and grandchildren. All four of his children have graduated college, developed rewarding careers, and are raising happy families of their own. Jack and Judy have nine grandchildren spanning 17 years: Connor Bailey, Gwendolyn Bailey, Scarlett Hammond, Sophie Hammond, Vivian Scholl, Cameron Greene, Bennett Greene, Jackson Miller, and Joelle Miller.

Jack spent the last ten years of his life valiantly battling against cancer. During this time Jack truly cherished his time with his children and grandchildren. Jack loved his life so very much and wanted all to know how much everyone meant to him.

A visitation for Jack will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749. A Celebration of Life will occur Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:00 AM, graveside at noon, followed by refreshments at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
