Jacqueline, known by all as Jill, Jill-Pill or Nana was born July 25, 1939, as the second child of John Nolan Harvey, Jr and Mabel Louise Makemson Davis in Austin, TX. She married Jennings A. “Bud” Garrett, Jr on July 11, 1959 and they had two children.
Jill graduated from Travis High School in 1957 and attended the University of Texas where she was a twirler for the Longhorn Band. Over the years, while at home raising her children, Jill wrote articles for the Richardson Daily News; supported the community through her involvement with the PTA, the Jaycees and Jaycettes, youth sports leagues, local beauty pageants, the YMCA, and the Camp Fire Girls. Most importantly, she gave her life to her savior Jesus Christ and worked with Bud in ministry and faithfully served in the Elder Care Ministry, Healing and Prayer Ministry and “Faith Alive”.
Jill is survived by her son, Jennings A. “Jag” (and Dawn) Garrett, III of Pueblo West, CO; her daughter, Jana Mischele (and CDR Eric, Ret.) Mathiesen of Surry County, VA; her six grandchildren, Sarah Rachel Garrett, Rebecca Dawn Garrett, Josiah Adam Garrett and Jared Andrew Garrett of Pueblo West, CO; Randi Mischele Mathiesen and Samantha Ann Mathiesen of Surry County, VA; and two great grandsons, Gavin Michael Dabb and Isaac Hunter Dabb of Surry County, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings A. “Bud” Garrett, and her parents, Nolan and Louise Harvey.
A Viewing will be at Cook-Walden Funeral Home at 6100 N. Lamar in Austin, TX on Friday, October 14th from 6-8 pm and a Graveside Service will be at Assumption Cemetery at 3650 South IH35, Austin, TX on Saturday, October 15th at 11 am.
