She was born on May 16th, 1931 in Harlingen, TX, to John Rheims and Gertrude Holloway Mainer. She graduated from Austin High School and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Texas where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and met her husband Tellmond Herder Richter Jr. They were married Sept. 7th 1951 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Austin, and soon moved to Corpus Christi where Tellmond became an insurance agent for Prudential and the couple had their three children, Susie, David, and William. The family lived in Corpus for many years before moving to Houston in 1974.
Jackie had many interests. She was a dedicated member of Delta Gamma sorority and participated in many of their student activities in addition to alumni events. Her continuing interest in painting and other art forms was prevalent throughout her lifetime. Her strength was in painting abstract art. She and her husband enjoyed dancing of all kinds and joined a square dancing league at one point where Tellmond sometimes acted as caller.
She was active in the Daughters of the King, in their church in Houston and often volunteered. She was a staunch Republican and never wavered in her conservative beliefs, voting diligently as long as she was able.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband Tellmond Herder, her parents, and her brother John Rheims Mainer.
She is survived by her three children, grandchildren Brian Richter of Hutto, Tristan Richter of Cedar Park, Sophia Richter and Caleb Richter of Georgetown.
