James (Jim) DeMar Abrams, Jr., 76, passed away on the morning of August 9th after a long battle against complicated health conditions. He was born to Bettijane (Livingood) and James DeMar Abrams, Sr., on June 5, 1949, in Boulder, Colorado. Jim spent his early years moving around with the family as his father constructed infrastructure projects around the United States. Eventually, the family would settle in El. Paso, Texas.
Jim graduated from Eastwood High School in El. Paso, Texas, in 1967. He served in the United States Army. Jim then spent time in the Northwest earning his Civil Engineering degree from The University of Washington. He served as president of Austin PreStress for over 30 years.
It was upon his return to Texas that he would meet the love of his life. In March of 1990, Jim and Deb were married in the backyard of their South Austin home. They would share the next 27 years together, traveling to the ends of the world and immersing themselves in foreign cultures and once in a lifetime experiences.
He is survived by his brothers Jonathan and wife Jackie, Jace, Jeremy; sisters, Jane Rushing, Julie Koch and husband Bailey, Jill Anderson, Janelle and husband Cash; many nieces and nephews and grandnieces, Riley and Lexi. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Debra Abrams. Special thanks to Magnolia Hospice and Kitt.
A celebration for Jim will be held at 10 am on August 22, 2025, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home in South Austin followed by a private family gathering.
