Mr. James Edward Berry went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 30, 2016. He was born July 17, 1956, in Austin, Texas, to Thelma Lorine Berry and James Franklin Berry. Prior to moving to Dime Box, Texas in early 2016, he lived in Bastrop, Texas on the family ranch that he and his family built. He was a 7th generation Texan, tracing his roots back to before the Republic of Texas.
James was preceded in death by his father, James Franklin Berry; grandfathers, Roy O. Berry and Reginal C. McCoy; grandmothers, Mrs. Stella Berry and Mrs. R. C. McCoy; his aunt, Edna N. Douglas; cousin, Norine Cook; and his great-grandparents, Mrs. Josephine Gouyton Brown and Mr. Charlie Franklin Brown.
He is survived by his mother, Thelma Lorine Berry of Dime Box; his brother, Daniel R. Berry and his wife Yolanda R. Berry and their daughter, his niece, Victoria A. Berry of Tyler; aunt, Geraldine F. Eckert of Upland, IN; his nephew, Josiah and wife Aimee Cook and their children Josalyn and Alister; his cousins, Elizabeth Gilliland and husband Lonnie of Smithville, Marilyn Ross-Hoeffner and her son Christopher, and Jeanne and her husband Norman Kittredge and their children; and his numerous co-workers and friends.
James was many things in his life: son, brother, uncle, friend, teacher, mentor, rancher, gardener, and preacher. But most of all, he would like to be remembered first and last as a Christian. He truly loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart, soul, and all his might. He would have had all men come to love Him and accept Him as their personal Savior as he had. I know God welcomed him with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
We'd like to thank Ms. Danita Smith JP, Deputy David Jessup, and the Lee County Sheriffs Department for their courteous service to our family during this trying time.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, North Lamar. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
