Jim Mike, as friends knew him, was born in Houston, Texas on January 24, 1943. After finishing high school in his adopted town of Weimar, Texas, he attended the University of Texas in Austin, where he was recruited to play varsity golf under Texas Hall of Fame coach, Harvey Penick, before finishing his academics at the University of Houston. His work was in oil and gas, and he was later Founder and President of Service Oil Company, in Houston.
Jim Mike loved few things more in life than the game of golf. Having played on many famed courses throughout his life, his favorite was always Lochinvar Golf Club, in Houston, of which he was a charter member for 40 years, winning the Club Championship in 1992.
After his move to Bastrop, Texas, he continued to play golf daily at Colovista Golf Club. Many memories, friends, and business deals happened for Jim Mike on the golf course, and it was his happy place.
He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Wanda Barnett; father, Forrest Bryant; sister, Judy Chambers; and wife, Cynthia (Clendennen) Bryant. Jim Mike leaves behind his children, Katie Pierce and spouse Cody; Mike Bryant and spouse, April; and his three grandchildren he adored even more than golf: Lily, Bowie, and Declan.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas, on Saturday, July 10 at noon. Those who are unable to attend and wish to celebrate Jim Mike from afar, may send flowers to this location, in his memory. Please join us in saying “Love ya bye!” to our beloved Jim Mike
