James G. Campbell Jr.

Jim graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied business, served as the president of the Acacia Fraternity, and was active in the school’s ROTC program.

He is a veteran of the Korean War where he earned numerous medals including two Legion of Merit awards, each forexceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements; The Bronze Star with Acts of Valor, for acts of heroism, acts of merit, and meritorious service in a combat zone; and a Purple Heart, for the wounds sustained during battle; and the Gallantry Cross, in recognition of deeds of valor or heroic conduct while in combat. A defining moment for him was his survival of Battle of Chosin Reservoir, a decisive battle in the Korean War, where he served as a platoon leader. He is also a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served at both the Pentagon, and the Military Command Center in Saigon.

Following the war, Jim pursued an MBA at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania while attending the prestigious US Army War College. Following his graduations, he served as faculty member of the War College for two years. Jim retired from the Army in 1979 after 30 years of distinguished service.

He started off his retirement by embarking on an international adventure across Europe – the highlight for him was sailing on the Aegean Sea. He then moved to Austin, Texas, a city he heralded for its warm weather and friendly residents. There he enjoyed a second career in residential and commercial real estate, founding and managing two real estate companies, and making countless friends in the process.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Bob Campbell.

He is survived by his 5 children: Elizabeth Campbell, Cathy Stonefelt, Jim G. Campbell, III, Paul Campbell and Jeffrey Campbell. He is also survived by his sister, Lu Jewell and sisters-in law: Susan Brown and Verna Marie Campbell.

The family wants to give special thanks to members of Family Eldercare of Austin for all of their assistance.

Memorial services will be private, at the request of family members. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
