

Lt. Col. (Ret) James William Daily, passed away on December 5th, 2019, at the age of 80. He was born in Leesville, Louisiana on September 27th, 1939, to Elouise Reid and William Hershell Daily. He received a degree in professional aviation from Louisiana Tech University. Jim joined the Air Force in 1959, which began his career in aviation. He started as a navigator and worked his way to becoming a pilot. His flying career encompassed many aspects, varying from aerial refueling, medivac, forward air control in Vietnam, as well as, an instructor in Korea. Jim’s non-flying Air Force career was varied as well, but notably included serving as the Treaty Action Officer of Australia, New Zeeland, United States (ANZUS). His career was distinguished as evidenced by his many awards, certificates, and medals that include several Air Medals and two Distinguished Flying Crosses. He retired from Bergstrom AFB in 1984, after 25 years of service and then began a 19 year career with the Texas Department of Transportation where he served as the Emergency Manager Coordinator. Following two retirements, he dedicated himself to his family, golf and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Stoddard Daily, son Greg Daily of Austin, TX, son Jay Daily & daughter in law Londa Daily of Austin, TX, his sister Billie Evans of Lake Charles, Louisiana and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Dailey.
A memorial service is scheduled for Jim on December 10th, 2019, 11:00AM at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks in Austin, TX. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim’s life.
