James S. Jones died on March 4, 2011. He was born on October 9, 1928. He graduated from Austin High School in January 1945. He enrolled in the University of Texas in the fall and was elected a UT cheerleader. In 1947, he volunteered in the Navy and was educated in electronics. He married Mamie Ruth Wesson on February 14, 1950. His knowledge of electronics was needed during the Korean War; therefore he was called to active duty leaving a wife and young son to await his safe return.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; two sons, Larry G. Jones and David L. Jones; daughter, Jo Beth Alexander and her husband Scott; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Peggy Grona and husband Floyd; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Reeves. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Johnie Reeves.
He was fortunate to have experienced several careers… the latest being the owner of his own business, The House of Lights. He sold this company and then spent many happy years traveling, golfing, fishing, reading and continuing to enjoy the companionship of his devoted wife of 61 years. Jim had a lifelong love of sports and was an avid fan of U.T. baseball. One of his greatest joys as a Father was sharing his love of baseball, swimming and diving with his two sons and daughter. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a wonderful friend to all who knew him. He truly became fully human which was the highest honor he could pay to God who showed him how.
Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous nor pompous. It is not inflated nor rude. It does not seek its own interests, nor is it quick tempered. It does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. Jim’s life exemplified the true meaning of love as few lives have.
Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Walker, Jim (Corky) Mc Corquodale and Gail Buckley.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 11, 2011 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 10010 Anderson Mill Road, Austin, Texas. The burial will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
We would like to express our appreciation to Hospice of Austin, Dr. Ace Alsup and Reavis Rehab Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Austin or The Salvation Army.
