Saturday, May 21, 2022 - Today would have marked the 101st birthday of my beloved father, James Marvin Magness, a much loved father, son, brother, husband, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, friend, co-worker and last surviving member of his own Band of Brothers of whom the loss of each and the loneliness of the last survivor weighed heavily upon his heart.  It was my honor and privilege to be able to spend the last few hours of his life with him along with my precious son, James Cole Loetz, and my beautiful, brave and selfless younger sister, Carla Denise Magness Saegert, who bore the brunt lovingly, loyally,  faithfully, selflessly, and without complaint of our father’s final years on earth, serving as his local loved one, his part-time to full-time daughter, employee, caregiver,  guardian and executrix of his final wishes. Only she, her husband and maybe a handful of dear souls knew at what cost she did her duty to honor our father in his old age and passing and her like is seldom and unfortunately too little seen today.  Daddy knew Jesus and that he was going home to heaven to be with family, loved ones and fallen comrades in life and in service to our country.  I personally knew this because we talked about it in one of his many hospital stays of his latter life where it became my dearest and most cherished crown to lay at the feet of Jesus, my Lord and Savior, to baptize him in that small hospital room in a now unknown hospital  in Austin, Texas, where he professed his belief in Christ and his need for Him as his personal Lord and Savior and where I was led to make the sign of the cross on his forehead with tap water and told him he was now a new man in Christ, his sins forgiven because of His perfect sacrifice on the cross for our sins, and just to be sure because he thought he had been baptized in his youth, yet he could no longer remember.  He stood his final watch well,  feeling very alone having outlived most, if not all, of fallen comrades.  To Carla

Carla and Layton,    Jimmy Magness must have been a wonderful person, knowing only the fact that he was deeply loved.  Watching his daughter go though what she did to insure his care said a lot.  Peggy and I wish you the peace that passes all understanding.  Just heard about your loss this morning. I am under Dr's. care and get a trip to the surgical center tomorrow or we would be there.  Blessings to all of the Magness family and friends. Dear Jo, I am so sorry I wil be unable to attend the service tomorrow.  Have an Alamo Committee meeting in S.A. and my Marine grandson is having surgery on his knee at BAMC tomorrow.  My love and condolences to you and yours.  Delitha
