

James Cecil McCarn Jr. (J.C.) of Austin, Texas passed away May 28, 2015 at the age of 85. He was born August 3, 1929 to James Cecil McCarn and Laura Pearl Leeton McCarn in Pawnee, Texas. He grew up in Pawnee, Kenedy and San Antonio, Texas and graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1950 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. After graduation, he served as an officer in the United States Army for two years. Upon leaving the Army, he worked as Sales Manager at his father's Massey-Harris-Ferguson tractor and farm implement dealership in Kenedy for two years. He moved to Austin in 1955 and began a successful career in mortgage banking, insurance and real estate property management at First Austin Company.
J.C. and Margaret Augusta Zieschang married March 26, 1960 and had four children. The family grew up actively attending St. Paul Lutheran Church. J.C. was an extremely faithful and unselfish servant of the Lord, always putting the needs of others before his own. He loved his family with all his heart and was constantly focused on their happiness and well being. He and his wife Margaret enjoyed participating in the Texas Wendish Heritage Society.
J.C. worked his way to become Assistant Vice President at First Austin Company and continued there until after it was acquired by Capital Mortgage Bankers in 1976. In 1979, he joined Mortgage & Trust, which eventually became owned by Mellon Bank, and worked there as Vice President until his retirement in 1993. He was a Licensed Real Estate Broker for many years.
In retirement, he remained physically active by spending many hours at Margaret's family farm outside Taylor. He always had a passion for business and stock investing that he keenly enjoyed until the end of his life.
J.C. is survived by his wife Margaret, their four children, Jim, Keith and his wife Laura, Camille, Carl and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Mark. He also leaves behind four nieces and a nephew whom he loved dearly, Laura Lee Peery, Linda Hasse, Kevin Steed, Gail Chester, Jill Martin and their families.
He was predeceased by his sister, Fanny Fay Steed and husband Preston, as well as his brother-in-law Edwin Carl Zieschang Jr. and survived by Edwin's wife, Lenora Zieschang.
Visitation will be held at Cook-Walden Funeral home, 6100 North Lamar Blvd on Saturday, May 30th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The Funeral service will be on Sunday, May 31st 2:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 3501 Red River Street, Austin, Texas. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
