

Jim worked as a clerk in the Osgood post office until his retirement. After his retirement, he worked at several other places around Ripley County. During WWII he served in the Army Air Corps as a tail gunner on a B-24 aircraft and was injured by flak fire over Weiner, Germany in 1943. He received the Air Medal, Silver Star and Purple Heart for his service.
Before moving to Texas, he was a member of the Osgood (IN) Methodist Church, Osgood Lodge #603 F&AM., Valley of Indianapolis Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and the Osgood Lions Club. When he moved to Austin, TX in 1999, he became a member of Hill City Lodge #456 F&AM, the Greater South Austin Kiwanis and Faith United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, (James) Walter Rutherford & Nora (Starks) Rutherford of Sandusky, IN, brother, Cloyd Rutherford & sister Doris (Rutherford) Frensemeier, wives Virginia (Bean) Rutherford & Kathryn (Braley) Rutherford. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Rutherford, Austin, TX, step-children-Kathy (Tom) Caplinger, Shelbyville, IN; John (Melinda) Braley, Versailles, IN; Chris Braley, Madison, IN & Tena (Moody) Crews, Lexington, SC.; seven grandchildren & seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews and other loving family members.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, November 21, 2010, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 W. William Cannon.
Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 P.M., Monday, November 22, 2010 in the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Chapel.
