James W. Summers, 89, of Austin, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2011. He was born on March 14, 1922 in Allen, Texas to James Summers and Loda Allen Summers. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 30 years of dedicated service, was a member of VFW Post 8925, and was a longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
James was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; and 3 sons. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth H. Summers; daughter, Suzanne Adams and husband, Glen; sons, Tom Riordan and John Riordan and wife, Karen; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., Monday, October 17, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park with Full Military Honors rendered by the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made in James’ memory to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to a charity of choice.
