Jane McCleneghan Braasch passed peacefully December 19, 2017 while a resident at Silverado Memory Care in Bee Cave, TX. She was 87. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, she was a longtime resident of Tyler, TX before moving to Austin in 2013 to be near her sons.
Jane, affectionately known as Janey, is survived by her husband, Jack Oliver Braasch; children, Steve and Jennifer (Locke) Braasch of Bee Cave, TX and Thomas and Catherine (Tausch) Braasch of Austin, TX; her four grandchildren, Mark and Marisa (Kohler) Braasch, Hunter Braasch, Margaret (Braasch) and Justin Gant, and Patrick and Heather (Braasch) Arnold; and her six great-grandchildren, Johnny, Oliver, Madeline, Riley, Molly, and Anna Locke. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Hazel (Jensen) McCleneghan.
Jane was born February 8, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. Always a bright spirit, Janey enjoyed a remarkable childhood in Omaha and time in California where she traveled frequently with her parents. In Omaha, she grew up near her parent's extended families. Stories, like how in 1932 Janey and her father "put the pony in the back seat of the Nash and went visiting friends" and how she had her pilot's license before she had a driver's license, illustrate what a truly wonderful life Janey lived.
After graduating from Benson High School in Omaha in 1948, she attended William Woods College in Fulton, MO. After graduating in 1950, she moved back to Omaha where she and Jack Oliver Braasch married on April 14, 1951. Jane, Jack, and their sons moved to Fort Worth, Texas in 1959. In 1965, Jack's career took them to Tyler, TX where they made their home until moving to Austin.
Janey was a beautiful lady whose infectious smile could warm any heart. Her effervescent energy would light up any room she entered and her gentle spirit touched so many. She will be sorely missed. Janey was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother. She worked for the phone company, Tyler schools and volunteered for the American Heart Association. Janey enjoyed golfing, playing the piano, was a member of PEO, and Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler, but time with family is what she treasured most.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler, TX.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to be made in Janey’s memory to any of the following: American Heart Association, www.heart.org, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, www.michaeljfox.org, or the Alzheimer's Association www.alz.org.
