Jane Eva Bullard, age 67, died March 15, 2006, in Austin, Texas. She was born in Austin on March 5, 1939, and was an Austinite her entire life. Jane graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1957, Bryn Mawr College in 1961, and the University of Texas Law School in 1964. She was one of a few women attending law school at that time. After passing the Bar, she worked for a succession of family-owned mortgage companies, including First Austin Company, Capital Mortgage Bankers, Austin Title Company, and Bullard Company. She was always proudest of raising her two sons, George and Michael Vassar, who came to live with her in 1977. She loved them dearly and raised them as her own from that point on. In more recent years, she took particular delight in being a grandmother to Margaret and Caroline. Jane herself was loved and admired by many people and will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents Helen High Bullard and William Henry Bullard, Sr., siblings William Henry Bullard, Jr., and Louise Goodwin Bullard Vassar, and numerous aunts and uncles. She is survived by son George John Vassar, M.D., his wife Jill Harrison Vassar, and their daughters Margaret Virginia Vassar and Caroline Helen Vassar of San Antonio; son Michael Elias Vassar and his wife Michelle Marie Vassar of Austin; and numerous cousins. Pallbearers will be Luke Bradley, Gil Burrell, John P. Burrell, Stephen F. Cole, Eric P. Fisher, and Larry N. Harrison. Honorary pallbearers are Ernest Grey Frerking and Philip M. Vassar, the boys father. Services will be held Saturday, March 18, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Davids Episcopal Church with The Reverend Ron Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
