

Jane Ayre Loomis was born December 3, 1924, the oldest of three daughters to Jane and George Ayre. Jane grew up in Pennsylvania and then attended both the University of Tennessee and University of Michigan.
She spent 28 years as the wife of a navy pilot. As they moved around the country, she made homes for her family in 10 different cities all over the United States before embarking on her own career in retail human resources. She was friendly and outgoing and made friends wherever she went. She was a fun, fun grandmother and was known as "Nanny" to her grandchildren Elizabeth Watkins Carlisle and her husband Taylor, Matthew Watkins and his wife Susan, and then later to her great grandchildren Evan Carlisle and Hannah Watkins.
Jane is also survived by her daughter Christine Watkins and her husband James, as well as her son Tom Loomis and his wife Heather Thomas. Jane's sister Judith and her husband Morton survive her, as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. She would also want to remember her many, many friends at Englewood Estates who were so important to her in her last years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her sister Georgia.
Jane, known as Janie to friends and family, loved the old classic movies. She loved reading the newspaper to keep up with current events, and enjoyed crossword puzzles and word games. Everyone who knew her will remember her for her sharp mind and her wonderful sense of humor.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2013 at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1500 N. Capital of Texas Hwy., Austin, TX 78746.
