Janet Kay Hand was born September 17, 1965 in Houston Texas and died June 12, 2021 in Austin Texas. She was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt. Janet contributed to each of our lives in so many ways, she reminded us to laugh, have patience, and take life one step at a time. She modeled a life of grace, grit, and wit, living a long and fulfilling life and serving as a blessing to family and friends.
Janet far outlived her life expectancy and the expectations some held for her. She graduated from Spring Branch High School and lived and contributed to the Brookwood, Willow River Farm, and Marbridge communities; living at Marbridge since 2013, where she loved the activities and looked forward to chapel, music class, bowling, and coffee with staff. She could be seen riding her bicycle around the Marbridge campus, sporting her mohawk helmet!
Janet had a ready smile, a quick spirit and a sparkle in her eye, often catching those around her by surprise with well-timed and unexpected quips. Janet was the youngest of the “Hand girls”, and was happiest when all her sisters were present. She had a style of her own, favoring brightly colored, coordinated outfits, and was known for her accessories, particularly her collection of backpacks and headbands. Janet enjoyed her puzzle books, doing craft projects, having pizza and beer, going to the beach, and celebrating holidays big or small! She could beat you at a “rousing round of Yahtzee”, talk you into adopting a dog, and stare you down if you took her seat!
Janet is survived by her sisters Barbara (Bobbie) Hand Gideon and husband Michael Gideon, son Patrick Gideon, wife Abigail, and children Emma and Daniel, daughter Ashley Potts, husband Christopher, and daughter Brynley, Lynn Hand Woll and husband Scott Woll, daughter Bryanna Emmerling, husband Josh Emmerling, and son Henry, and Virginia (Ginny) Hand Sullaway, husband Guy Sullaway, son Marshall Sullaway and wife Katie. She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert Allen Hand and Louise Kite Hand and her nephew Alexander Woll.
A family service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, 12535 Perthshire, Houston 77024, where she will be interred with her parents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Marbridge Foundation, PO Box 2250, Manchaca Texas 78652 www.Marbridge.org/donate or to the charity of your choice.
