On March 25, heaven welcomed one of the kindest and most compassionate souls. Janet Haire Porachan’s family and friends are now left with her precious memories and loving heartprints. Our deep loss is eternity’s great gain.
When we remember Janet, her affection and warmth toward family and friends are foremost in our minds. She was generous and fiercely loyal to those she loved. Janet was always quick to encourage or offer a shoulder to cry on. Any neighbor or family member knew that Janet would help in any way or at any time. Milk from one of her cows, vegetables from her garden, or meal in a time of need, were Janet’s hallmarks in her stay-at-home-mother phase. Honest and fair dealings were the trademarks that made her real estate brokerage, J. Haire Realty, such a successful business. A gentle touch or a kind word--at just the right moment--were the reasons that Janet was adored by all who knew her.
Janet was born on June 26, 1935, in Austin, Texas, to Ewell and Reba Oglesby. She is preceded in death by: her son, David Lee Haire; her daughter-in-law, Debra Ann Haire; her grandson, Donald Franklin Haire; her brother, Buddy Oglesby; her sister, Reta Hancock; and her husband of almost 39 years, Joe Porachan. Janet is survived by: her son, Donald “Duane” Haire; her favorite “only” daughter, Donna Detjen and husband Karl; daughter-in-law, Emily Haire; sister, Elizabeth McIntyre and husband Ernie; grandchildren, Mary Haire Shaw, Jack Haire, Nathan Byars, Christopher Byars, Nicholas Haire, Samuel Haire, and Stephanie Detjen; 13 great-grandchildren; and her cat, Kitty-Kitty.
Some of Duane’s, Donna’s, and Elizabeth’s fondest memories are of Janet singing the solo-offertory at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on many Sunday mornings. Each hymn that she sang left imprints of melody and verse that help to carry them through in this time of grief. Janet’s earnest desire remains--for those who love her to leave heartprints as they live their lives each day.
Visitation will take place Sunday, April 3, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home, 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, Texas. The memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, Texas.
