

Janet was born second of three children to Air Force Officer Templeton Thompson and Dorothy Jean Thompson in Texarkana, Arkansas. She spent her youth as an Air Force ‘brat” in Canada, Florida, Kansas and Ohio. She graduated from Loretto High School in El Paso, where she later met and married her husband, Leo, of more than forty years. Janet and Leo, also an Air Force officer, made homes in Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, England and Japan.
Janet has two children, Laura Smith of Austin and Chris Speckman of Buda and seven grandchildren, Kelsie, Collin, Shannon, Sean, Caty, Bridget and Cassidy Smith and Evan Speckman. She is also survived by two brothers, Ed and Scott Thompson, and a large extended family.
Janet led a rich life and spread light wherever she was. She was exceptionally intelligent, compassionate and caring. She will be missed.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2011 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Friends and family may also pay their respects from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2011 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road. Entombment will follow the Mass at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Mausoleum.
