JANICE PATTON HORNICKEL Janice Patton Hornickel, age 82, died peacefully on January 1, 2004. She was the only child of Aubrey and Carrie Patton, born November 16, 1921 in Palmer, Texas. Surrounded by a large German family, she grew up in this small rural town just northeast of Dallas. At a young age, she began her life long involvement with music, in particular the piano. Although she was unable to attend college and pursue her dream of studying piano and voice, she never stopped playing and enjoying beautiful music. After high school graduation, she attended business school and was soon working in Dallas as a secretary for the Dallas Hudson Company. In 1940, a handsome Texas A & M cadet by the name of Edward Hornickel walked in to take care of car business for his father. In August, 1943, they married. Like so many of that generation, the bond formed as a result of courtship and marriage during wartime was forged forever, and they shared 60 wonderful years together. As the wife of a career military officer, she and Edward had many interesting tours of duty but their first love was always Texas. In 1973 they returned to San Antonio for retirement. Janice was active in the San Antonio Aggie Wives Club and a member of St. Georges Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and is survived by her daughter, Deborah Hornickel, of Austin. Services will be private. Contributions may be made to the San Antonio A & M Club, Aggie Park, 6205 West Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78213. Arrangements by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N.
