Janice Jermaine (Sailer) Miller was born on March 5, 1941, to Albert and Erna (Wittmayer) Sailer in Krem, North Dakota. She grew up on the family dairy farm and attended Elm Grove Country School and Hazen High School, graduating in 1958.
Janice was married to Dale Miller for 22 years, and raised three children — Jeffrey, Coleen, and Patricia — in Stanton, North Dakota, and Wheatland, Wyoming. She later lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming, for 15 years before making her home in Austin, Texas, where she lived for the past 24 years. Janice passed away peacefully at her home in Austin on May 18, 2026.
Throughout her life, Janice held a variety of interesting and impactful jobs. She began by waitressing in Hazen and later worked in accounting at Oliver Mercer Electric Coop.
While raising her children, she worked at the sheriff’s department in Stanton. After moving to Wheatland, she worked as a bank teller and loan assistant. In the final years of her professional career, Janice worked in family services for the State of Wyoming in Cheyenne. Her favorite role, however — though she never considered it a job — brought her to Austin, where she lovingly cared for her grandchildren as their nanny.
Janice was an avid walker and enjoyed daily walks for many decades. She loved dancing the polka, waltz, and two-step, and she treasured traveling with friends throughout the United States. Later in life, she also traveled to Asia and Europe with her family.
Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Janice was fiercely independent and supported her children and grandchildren in extraordinary ways throughout her remarkable life.
Janice is survived by her two daughters, Coleen (Peter) Regan of Jackson, Wyoming, and Patricia Miller of Austin, Texas; two grandchildren, Sean Regan and Grace Regan, both of Boston, Massachusetts; three brothers, Dellas Sailer and Thomas Sailer, both of Stanton, North Dakota, and Steven Sailer of Washburn, North Dakota; along with many other beloved relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Miller; her parents, Albert and Erna Sailer; her brother, Clyde Sailer; and her sister-in-law, Carol Sailer.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hazen, North Dakota.
As her faith was central to who she was, memorial donations may be made to Triumphant Lutheran Church, 9508 Great Hills Trail, Austin, TX. 78759.
