

In loving memory of Janie Perez Garza, who passed away on February 12, 2026, in Bastrop, Texas, at the age of 71. Born on March 27, 1954, in Taylor, Texas, Janie was a devoted Christian who cherished her faith and family.
Janie was known for her warm and welcoming nature. She had an incredible ability to make everyone feel at home, offering positive advice and support whenever needed. Her life was deeply intertwined with her family and faith. Janie was a talented pool player who earned the nickname "Baby Janie."
Janie enjoyed a variety of hobbies that brought her joy and fulfillment. She loved cooking and baking, often creating delicious meals for her loved ones. Gardening and fishing were also among her favorite pastimes, providing her with peaceful moments of relaxation and connection with nature. Camping and thrifting were activities that allowed her to explore and discover new things. Janie had a special love for making memories with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. She was always ready to lend a helping hand and create beautiful moments with those she cared about. She shared a very unique bond with her granddaughter Nyla Garza who she raised.
Janie is survived by her children: Carlos Garza (Lisa), Ruben Garza, Sonia Rivera (Ray), Ingrid Barnes (Jeremy), and Ashley Garza (Brett). She also leaves behind stepsons Adrian Leal (Rachel) and Daniel Leal Jr (Cynthia). Janie is also survived by her siblings Emma Garza, Maria McDaniel, Robert Garza Sr., and Mary Ann Gallardo. She is also survived by her precious grandchildren, great- grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family. Janie was predeceased by her parents, Ernesto and Sarah Garza, her brothers Jesse Garza Sr. and Roy Garza Sr., her sisters Anita Garza and Yolanda Garza, stepson Anthony Leal, grandson Noel Leal, and great granddaughter Alaia Rose Carrizales.
Janie was a devoted member of Gateway Church, where she found community and spiritual fulfillment. Her life was marked by her commitment to family, her faith, and her many cherished hobbies.
Janie will be greatly missed but always remembered for the beautiful memories she created and the love she shared. We thank you for your support and prayers during this difficult time. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
A visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish South Chapel, located at 2620 South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas, 78704, on February 23, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location, beginning at 12:00 pm. There will be a Celebration of Life luncheon after the service. All are welcome to join.
