She was born March 28, 1937, in Lexington, Kentucky, to Charles Edward and Margaret Foley Hutchinson.
Jackie attended one year of nursing school before marrying William Clyde Cockerill on Feb. 4, 1956.
A homemaker and preschool teacher at St. Paul’s, St. Martin’s and St. Theresa’s, she was a member of a number of organizations that focused just as much on good conversation as good deeds.
Jackie was a member of the Balcones Hills Women’s Club, St. Theresa’s Ladies Club, Kneaded Pleasures Coffee Club, two book clubs, two bridge clubs, a bunko club, Northwest Caregivers and a founding member of St. Theresa Catholic Church.
She had the manners of a Southern lady and the wit of an Irish poet, possessing an innate ability to laugh at herself and the foibles of others.
A people person, Jackie never met a stranger and delighted in sharing her faith, political views, love of Kentucky and jokes in which she always mangled the punch line.
Jackie was preceded in death by her husband and her parents and two sisters, Margaret Carey and Mary Gale.
She is survived by two sisters, Jeannette Estes of Rimrock, Arizona, and Edwina Kelly and husband Emmett of Carthage, Illinois; two sons, William Clyde Cockerill II and his wife Cindy of Utopia and Edward Patrick Cockerill of Stephenville; three daughters, Maureen Carter and husband Keith of Austin, Lynn Cockerill of Austin and Laura Bristow and husband Dan of Dripping Springs; 11 grandchildren, Mary Ann Walter, Bonnie Leigh Reifsteck, Becky Lynn Byron, William Joseph Cockerill, Maggie Bristow, Jason Carter, Michael Cockerill, Nicholas Cockerill, Ashley Cockerill, Leslie Cockerill and Renae Cockerill; and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
