Jay was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, where he served in several capacities. He worked on the Grounds Committee and he and his wife Lola served as leaders of the Food Pantry. Jay also served as a Deacon but had to retire due to poor health. Jay retired as a government inspector from Tracor in 1988.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack R. and Margaret Ray; his brothers Jack Ray and Jim Ray; his sisters, Shirley Harlien and Gloria Ballard; and a daughter, Diana Ray Watson.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lola Blohm Ray of Austin, TX; his daughter Jaylene Ray Aasa and husband Gary of Shelley, ID; his son-in-law Alan Watson of Austin, TX. His granddaughters Michelle Bradbury and Stephanie Tong (Jason Sturrock) of Austin, TX; and Amanda Lipe of Battlement Mesa, CO; great grandchildren, Kaylah Tong of San Antonio, TX, Sara Bradbury of Killeen, TX, Madison Stricker of Tucson AZ, Austin Cartwright, Joseph Tong, Thomas Tong all of Austin, TX, Jaycob Lipe, Jeremy Lipe, and Aubrey Lipe all of Battlement Mesa, CO. Sister-in-laws Dolly Ray Nuse of Sun City, TX and Patricia Blohm Peters of Arlington, TX; brother-in-law Eugene Blohm and wife Genia of Groveton, TX; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Jay will be held Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Oak Hill Baptist Church, 6907 Convict Hill Rd, Austin, TX 78749. A funeral service will occur Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 6907 Convict Hill Rd, Austin, TX 78749. A graveside service will occur Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 3:30 PM to 4:00 PM at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749.
