Born on December 29, 1945, in El Paso, Jeannette was the beloved daughter of Carolina and Bernardo Fuentes. She began her career working at Fort Bliss, where she met the love of her life and future husband. Later, the couple moved to Austin, where she worked in the criminal justice system for many dedicated years before retiring and enjoying her time there with her husband.
Above all, she was simply “Grandma” — the heart of the family. On June 21, 1991, she married her beloved husband, Donald Sliter, and together they built a life filled with love, happiness, and lots of chaos. Their life together was loud, warm, and full of unforgettable memories.
Grandma was known for her incredible ability to love everyone, her joy for dancing, and yes — her unforgettable stubbornness. She loved to travel, loved having a full house, and thrived on laughter echoing throughout her home. She was especially famous for setting off the fire alarms just to let everyone know breakfast was ready — a tradition that will forever bring smiles through tears.
She is survived by her loving son, Bernard Estavillo; his wife, Leticia Estavillo; and their daughters, Miranda Estavillo and Diana Estavillo; her loving daughter, Bernadette Segala, and her daughter, Jacquelyn Segala; her devoted sister, Alice Marquez, her husband, Joe Marquez, and their daughter, Celeste Marquez; and her son, Andre Fuentes, and his children, Katlyn Faughn, Charles Faughn, Carolina Fuentes, and Nicholas Fuentes Each of them carries a piece of her spirit, her humor, and her fierce love.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Sliter, her beloved grandchild Charles Faughn, and her parents, Carolina Fuentes and Bernardo Fuentes.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing she is reunited with her husband Donald, her loving parents, and her precious grandson Charles. Her love, her laughter, and her unforgettable presence will live on in every family gathering, every shared meal, and every fire alarm that unexpectedly goes off.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held at Manchaca United Methodist Church on Monday, March 2, at 12:00 p.m. A celebration of life will follow at Casa Garcia's at 2:00 p.m.
