Jerry was born in Hillsboro, Texas to Everett Frasier Chastain and Dorothy Jane Chastain. He grew up in Austin and attended Mathews Elementary School, Allan Middle School and was in the 1952 graduating class of Austin High School. He was an Eagle Scout with Troop 5 and enjoyed many campouts in the Cat Mountain area.
A life-long Longhorn fan, Jerry attended the University of Texas, where he was on the Daily Texan staff and was president of the Caving Club. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958, where he was an atomic warhead specialist. Upon completion of his service, Jerry returned to U.T. and received a B.B.A in Advertising.
Jerry enjoyed a long career as a producer, director and cinematographer working in Los Angeles and Dallas. He returned to his beloved Austin in 2007, but never lost touch with his many dear friends. He will be remembered for his tremendous sense of humor, endless supply of stories and jokes, respect for everyone he encountered, as well as his love for his family, dogs, movies, trains and WWII history.
