

Miss Jessie Jessie Mae Picciandra, age 85, of Austin passed away on Monday, January 11, 2010. She was born on November 25, 1924 in Port Arthur, Texas to Otis and Lodia Guidry. She met Remolo "Joe the Singing Barber" at the USO during WWII. They married soon after an eventually moved to Rollingwood Drive where they raised eight kids. She never missed a baseball game and with six boys that kept her busy. A neighborhood legend that cooked everything from scratch and fed any and all that showed up hungry. She was an athlete at heart, loved outdoor camping but couldn't swim a lick. She spent her life raising and loving her children – always supporting them no matter what road they went down. She worked at the local IOUE #450 for 25 years as a secretary and a second mother to all the members. She'll be missed by many but loved by all. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-parents, Ed and Pearl Shannon; sister, Margaret Shipwash; granddaughter, Amber Picciandra; niece, Jackie Shipwash. Miss Jessie is survived by her husband, Remolo "Joe" Picciandra; her children, Paul and Jody Picciandra, David and Judy Picciandra, Deborah Picciandra, Michael and Lisa Picciandra, John and Shirley Picciandra, Angela Picciandra Lee, Joseph Picciandra, Charles and Nancy Picciandra; twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Mildred Gaskill. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 15, 2010 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church with Reverend Michael Couhig CSC officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Oaks Cemetery.
