James Lee Burleyson, better known as Jimmie, was born on December 4, 1936 in Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his Mother Laura Burleyson, Father Oliver Burleyson and Step-Mother Eula Mae Burleyson.
Jimmie is survived by his wife of 39 plus years, Kathleen, his son Joey and wife Page, his grandchildren: Alyssa, Koby, Jamie, Melanie and Kolton, his great grandchildren: Kacen and Kacey, and his Mother and Father-in-law: Julia and Joseph Reynolds.
If you asked Jimmie what he did for a living, he would tell you, “I spent 40 years toting a pistol for the Texas Department of Public Safety.” He enjoyed going to work everyday of his career and firmly believed that “It wasn’t a job, it was an adventure.”Jimmie was very interested in military history. He purchased and fully restored a M151 jeep. He used it to participate in parades in Houston during Desert Storm and at the Wings Over Houston Air Shows. Jimmie and Kathleen moved to the Texas hill country in 1995 where they built their dream home. Jimmie loved watching all the wildlife and was very happy in his surroundings. In 1999, his good friend, Maurice Beckham, got him interested in volunteering for the Austin Steam Train Association. Jimmie worked as a volunteer for 20 plus years. He worked as a Car Attendant, Crew Chief, Brakeman and Conductor. In addition, he served on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors. He truly missed being able to go out to the rail yard and help with projects when his age and health made that unsafe for him.
Jimmie believed there was no better place to live than in the great state of Texas. If he went on a vacation, he never fully relaxed until he had safely crossed the Texas border.
He loved his family and they will miss him.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Encompass Hospice. The care they provided to Jimmie during his illness, could not have been any greater. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Encompass Health Hospice.
