Jim was not only professional but kind and a real gentleman.  He helped me as well as many others with re-zoning of property.  Enjoyed his stories and experiences he shared his later years to Louisiana casinos.



My condolences to Rodney and the rest of the Bennett family.
I found out recently that Jim had passed and very sorry I missed attending the services. 
What a great and wonderful human being this man was, a great joy to talk with, and always had the right words to say. Had I not met Jim, my property in Onion Creek would have stayed zoned residential, because of his hard work and dedication it is now zoned commercial.
God Bless you..Jim. Your are probably helping out the Angels in Heaven!

My deepest sympathy for your loss.  Jim was a unique individual who will be sorely missed.  Jim was known as the being the "go to" guy for getting whatever land entitlement his clients needed as efficiently as possible; yet he was also one of the more humble people I have ever known, which says a lot considering all the folks in the development consultant business in Austin. I will miss seeing him at his "office" and I expect that his ghost will visit the DAC reception area, but it sure will not be the same.

I met Mr. Bennett in the Permit Center at COA. He was always pleasant, always smiling, and always had a good joke or a life lesson for me. I will always miss his presence here in our hallways. But he is one individual that I will never forget. I consider this a promotion of the highest for Mr. Bennett, and I can see him smiling about it now. Father, please watch over and comfort his family and friends. Welcome him into your open arms for he has been a good friend to me!

I will miss Jim's incredible knowledge of Austin's development and zoning regulations past and present, and his wry sense of humor. Sometimes he would say something with a small grin and arched eyebrow and wait for his audience to catch the implication. He was always a fun and friendly person to visit with while waiting for a case to come up at Council or Commission. He was a helpful coworker and a pleasant applicant. We jokingly called him "Mr. CS" because when he became a consultant he represented so many CS, Commercial Services zoning cases. And probably won most of them for his clients! My condolences to Rodney and the family, may we all keep his memory with us.

Iâ€™m glad that we were friends for over twenty years and got to work together on so many projects. My deepest sympathy and condolences are extended to the Bennett family he loved so dearly. He had so much to teach, if you were willing to learn. I worked with him for years @ COA....although he was not my immediate supervisor, if he asked for your assistance, you just wanted to do it, whatever it was. His personality cannot be duplicated. He had a way making everybody he knew or came in contact with feel as though they had a personal relationship with him and were an old friend.

Rodney, your dad will be sorely missed.  I first met Jim in 1978 when I started Mikhail Engineering.  He was a great help to me from the first.  When I started Mikhail Investments in 1982, Jim became the first person I went to on any property I bought or sold.  He had the greatest integrity and leaves a wonderful legacy for your and your family.  Jim was truly my friend.  May he rest in peace.

I'll always remember Jim teaching me how to make French knots when I did embroidery.  He was always catching Donna and I doing things we weren't suppose to be doing in the Radio Room at the City - but he would always laugh about it later. He was not only my boss, he was my friend. He will truly be missed. My heart goes out to the family.

I will never forget Jim's sincere kindness and unique ability to 'tell it like it is'.   Rodney - wishing you and your family peace during this painful time.  This is a tough loss for all of us.   



Rodney , Loretta and family.  Very few times in life do you get to meet a very gifted and special person much less get to set down and just visit about real estate , sports, hunting or so many things that were on his mind.  I always felt at home just sitting in his hiuse( city offices) and know he would help me in anyway I needed.  He always had more to give and offer than I did in terms of

I was so sorry to hear the news of my good  friend Jim's passing. I was fortunate enough to be able to work with Jim/Rodney on several occasions thru the years. I remember Jim and Rodney always being so happy to spend their time together hunting an fishing and telling us how much they enjoyed their time together.

Jim was a very good friend to and strong advocate for everyone he knew and worked with. He was always solid, practical and helpful. I have never had anyone in my personal life or professional career generously provide so much real help and insight with so little expectation of something in return. Its very hard to imagine going to 505 and not seeing him out front or just inside the front door. What a huge loss. My condolences to his family and community of friends.

He was my first supervisor at the City of Austin and I had the pleasure of working "for" him until he retired and then "with" him the following week when he came out of retirement as a consultant.  He was the most respected man I know and was a terrific mentor to me. One Texas Center will not be the same without him, but Rodney will fill those shoes with the knowledge Jim passed on to him and will do it well.  Til we meet again.
