Jimmy joined the 36th Infantry Division, Texas Army National Guard, in August 1953. He advanced through the enlisted ranks culminating in promotion to Command Sergeant Major. He was later appointed Chief Warrant Officer and again rose through the ranks retiring as Chief Warrant Officer 4 in December 1994. CW4 Nunnery served in various positions of great responsibility. His specialty for years was Unit Personnel Officer. His knowledge of both enlisted and officer personnel matters was unmatched. Following the lines of an old nationwide financial institution, “When CW4 Nunnery spoke (about personnel matters), people listened”.
He loved being with the "Love of his Life"; his wife, Shirley, and was very proud of his kids, watching them advance in life's journey. Jimmy also enjoyed going to Las Vegas & Louisiana to gamble. He loved meeting new people, telling jokes, playing pranks and having family and friend gatherings, but the biggest love in his life was his grandchildren. He loved watching them play Sports, Cheer and Theater. Jimmy enjoyed his Church and serving the Lord as a Head Usher for many years. He will be missed dearly by all of his family and friends. A visitation will be held for family and friends on Monday 6-8pm at Cook Walden Funeral Home, Lamar. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1:00pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Anderson Lane with burial to follow at Capital parks Cemetery.
The Family would like to thank all of the nurses at North Austin Medical Center for all of the wonderful care they gave during his stay.
