Joan Wilson Watassek passed away after a long struggle to recover from a near-fatal car accident six months ago. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Erin Elizabeth Watassek, and her steadfast husband, Frank Watassek. Joan was born in Houston and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin. She served as a nurse for thirty-three years. Joan was kind, loving, and empathetic with her patients, her friends, and her family. Joan opened her heart and home to so many young people as her daughter was growing up, serving as a caring adult and mentor. Joan had a large, giving heart along with a fun-loving sense of humor. She will be remembered for her sensitive intuition and for giving joy and compassion to all. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Polly and Grady Wilmoth, and is survived by her sister, Jane Wilson Lozano of Houston, and brothers James and John Wilson. Joan wanted to donate her organs to science so that she could continue to heal others even in death. A memorial service will be held for Joan at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel at 2 pm on Saturday, October 24, 2009. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in Joan's name to the charity of your choice.
