Joann Elkins Schilhab of Austin, Texas, passed away on June 15, 2023, at 91 years of age. She was born on September 7, 1931, in Waco, Texas, where she grew up. A big believer in the benefits of education, Joann started her college years at Baylor University on a voice scholarship. However, she was quickly drawn to the University of Texas at Austin, where she completed her Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees in Psychology. A Ph.D. Psychologist and a Licensed Professional Counselor, Joann spent the better part of her professional career teaching and mentoring as a professor at the University of Central Texas in Killeen.
Joann was preceded in death by her older daughter, Synda McCracken. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Elgin Schilhab; her younger daughter, Sian Schilhab; and her grandson and great-granddaughter, James and Gigi McCracken.
