Surviving Joanne is her loving husband of 50 years, Jack; her children, John and his wife Janet (Dripping Springs), Jeff and his wife Gwen (Kansas City), Joellen and her husband Ron Meyeres (Austin), Jackie and her husband Thomas Jew (Austin); her brother Tom and her sister Mary; 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; and many friends.
Joanne was born in Dayton, Ohio but loved the warm weather that Austin, Texas offered year round. She would brighten any social occasion due to her love of being around people; family, friends, or strangers, it didn’t matter to her. She always had a twinkle in her eyes, a smile and a spring in her step. She was young at heart and enjoyed numerous hobbies and activities. She had a wicked swing and a soft touch when it came to tennis and golf. She was prolific in cross stitching, often presenting her beautiful gifts to her friends and family. She was an avid gardener often spending from sun up to sun down in the Texas heat in her flower gardens. She was a lover of animals. Joanne was also a talented artist from metal flower sculptures to oil painting. She played guitar and sang in the guitar choir at mass on Saturdays and Sundays for many years. Music held a special place in her heart and she loved to dance. Most of all she treasured the time she spent with her family.
One of the most precious gifts that Joanne gave everyone was how to live life to its fullest, because she did just that every single day with passion.
A funeral mass and a celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 10:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Austin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Joanne’s name be made to "The Gathering" at Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church, The Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice Austin.
