
The world lost a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, Jodie Ann Severson, age 73, onJune 23, 2023. She passed away unexpectedly from natural causes and will be remembered for her beautiful smile and generous spirit.
Jodie was daughter of Ray and Patricia Sasser and raised in McAllen, TX. She graduated fromMcAllen High School where she was an accomplished singer and was selected to the All-State Choir and sang at the annual Texas Music Educators Association conference. She also was a finalist in local beauty pageants.
She married David Polvado and had 3 children. They raised their family in McAllen and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church where she volunteered with her musical abilities. She taught piano lessons to many students and played piano and the organ at St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years. She taught Sunday School and directed several of the children’s Christmas pageants at St. Paul and was always willing to help when needed.
Jodie and David divorced and she subsequently married Leigh Ward for a brief time and then married her final husband, Todd Severson, until he passed in 2005. They lived in Minneapolis and attended Mt. Olivet Church where she sang in the choir.
Professionally, she worked as an accountant and financial controller for over 30 years for several industries. She worked in CPA offices, legal firms, an oil and gas company, and a real estate investment company. She was always well-respected in her field and seen as an advisor by many of her family and friends on tax matters.
She is survived by her brother and sister, Ray Sasser, Celeste (Steve) Tenpenny, her children – Chris (Carilu) Polvado, Amy Tiemann, Stephanie (Corby) McWilliams, stepchildren - Jessica (Kesha) O’Brien, Bryan Severson; her grandchildren - Lindsey Polvado, Jacob (Teah) Polvado, Evan (Stephanie) Tiemann, Isabella Tiemann, Grady Tiemann, Sunny McWilliams, Krishna O’Brien, Chandra O’Brien, Mina Severson and Lily Severson; her great-grandchildren – Mason and Zaria Polvado. She is also survived by her many nephews and nieces and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Todd Severson, her father and mother, Ray and Patricia Sasser and her brother, Stan Sasser.
A memorial service will be held on July 30th, 3:00 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church, 3701 W Slaughter Lane, Austin, Texas 78749. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant some flowers at your home to support butterflies in honor of her. Jodie loved butterflies.
