Joe B. Foster, 83, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather died peacefully at home with his family by his side, in Austin Texas on January 23, 2020. He was born September 24, 1936 in Patmas, Arkansas. He went on to be a varsity football player for Milby Highschool in Houston, Texas. Joe graduated from the University of Houston and worked at NASA during the Apollo mission. After escaping the big city of Houston, Joe moved his family to the paradise of Rivercrest on Lake Austin in 1972. He started a career as a financial analyst with the UT system and eventually the City of Austin. After 20 years with the city he retired in 2009.
Joe, better known as Papa Joe, never missed his weekly golf games or bowling league unless he was traveling with his family. He especially loved Europe and was able to mark Ireland off his bucket list. If he had it his way, he would spend every night tuning into a classic movie in his beloved rocking chair with his whiskey in hand. He kept busy with his daily walks with friends, filling everyone in with the latest Rivercrest news. He was always rooting for his Dallas Cowboys and UT Longhorns. He was a proud member of St. Louis Catholic Church and was heavily involved in the Food Pantry and Homebound Ministries.
He is survived by his loving wife Lillie of 62 years, daughters Michelle (Bob) Sanderson and Melissa (David) Campos and 3 grandchildren Christopher, Mary Claire and Collin. He is preceded in death by his parents Norval and Lorene Foster and sister Marqueta Spell. He is loved by his large extended families, the Fosters, the Maytons and the Matus’.
Papa Joe never met a stranger and always left his mark wherever he went. His kindness nearly outweighed his humor and his storytelling was legendary, no matter how many times you heard it. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
The visitation will be Wednesday, January 29, 2020, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral home. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at St. Louis Catholic church at 1:00 pm followed by graveside service.
