Joe G. Hidrogo was a builder of homes, sheds, barns, anything requiring woodwork. He was a master of many trades, and a rancher and gardener. He loved the open land and raised all kinds of animals. He used his skills for decades serving St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Manor. He was a pillar for his church community. Joe served in the Army as soon as he was 18 but didn’t turn 18 until 1946. He missed the big war but was very happy he served his country the way he could. He served the State of Texas at Camp Mabry for 30 years in building anything and everything needed for the military facility. He learned all the building trades there, leading to him being promoted as Superintendent of the building crew for the last part of his career. Most important to him than anything worldly was his family, beloved wife Margaret, and his children.
Joe was born on January 22, 1928, to Antonia Garza and Ignacio Hidrogo in Austin, TX. Joe was married to the former Margaret Robles for 68 years. His beloved wife preceded him in death on March 18, 2018. Joe is survived by his children; daughters Modesta Hidrogo and Esther H. Talkington (d. Robert Talkington). The family would like to give a special note for superior service to Hospice providers Christian, Tammy, and Fifi and to the superior care provided by the caregivers Mary and Arnold the last months of Joe’s life. “Mister Joe” was so very happy he had both Arnold and Mary as his health declined. Special thanks to Mary who provided care and home assistance for over 6 years to Mister Joe.
