

Joe Kelly Obenhaus July 20, 1958 – Sept 22, 2009 The angels are rejoicing as they welcome Joe Kelly Obenhaus into their arms. Joe Kelly passed away peacefully September 22, 2009. Joe's zest for life left his mark on an untold number of people including his mother, Hazel Obenhaus, sister and brother-in-law Vaughn and Tex Gross, brother and sister-in-law Dick and Patti Obenhaus, nephew and niece Jason and Casey Obenhaus. Joe Kelly was welcomed into heaven by his father Richard A. Obenhaus, grandparents Thelma and Jack Triplett, Hugh Williams, and Rev. G. A. and Clara Ramming Obenhaus. Joe Kelly's formative years were spent with his special caregiver and grandmother Mrs. J. L. Triplett, who nurtured him in every way to become a productive adult. As an adult with Down syndrome, Joe Kelly lived life to the fullest. He was known for his infectious smile, friendly nature, and wonderful sense of humor. He graduated from Jerry Mac Clifton High School, Austin Independent School District. He worked at the Texas House of Representatives Business Office where he was beloved by all and honored on his 40th birthday with a special proclamation from then Governor George Bush. Joe Kelly was a devoted employee at the State Capitol. He knew everyone and everyone knew Joe. He made a point to meet and greet everyone on his daily delivery tours. He seldom missed work and shortened his vacations because "They miss me." Joe Kelly enjoyed every day of his 25 years of service to the members of the Texas House of Representatives. The House honored him with a special retirement celebration and Resolution honoring his years of service. Not only did Joe Kelly love his work, he had a passion for his social life and friends. He was a long time member of the Special Stars where he was known for his love of music and dancing at their monthly parties. Joe Kelly's message to those he left behind is "I okay." The family would like to thank the staff at the Mayfair wing of Monticello West, Dallas, Texas for their loving care and devotion for the past three years. Following a family burial at Austin Memorial Park, a celebration of Joe Kelly's life will be held Monday, September 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, 606 West 15th, The Rev. June A. Wilkins officiating. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to The Austin Humane Society, www.austinspca.com, St. Martin's Lutheran Church, or the charity of your choice.
