
You were my best friend in beauty school and we lost contact a few years later but I never stopped trying to find you. I have so much I wanted to share with you. You would have loved all my stories. You always made me feel at home when I felt alone there. I remember cutting your hair into a rat tail and bleaching bleaching it till you screamed that your head felt like it was on fire! lol Then we got in trouble at school the next day! I miss you so much..



AT FIRST I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO WRITE BECAUSE I HAD NOT TALKED TO JOHN SINCE I WAS 17 YEARS OLD, BUT FROM WHAT I REMEMBER HE WAS A VERY GOOD FRIEND WITH ME AND MY SISTERS WE USED TO GO TO CLUB FLANAGINS, AND JUST DANCE ALL THE TIME, WE WOULD GO TO HIS HOUSE AND JUST HAVE FUN TALKING PLAYING POOL, AND JUST HANGING OUT, HE WAS A GREAT FRIEND TO US, AND EVEN IF WE HAVE NOT TALKED TO HIM, HE WILL BE MISSED BY US ALL. I have many fond memories of John, Cha Cha...I met him out as many others did. Out on the dance floor in 89'...he always made me smile and knew how to lift one's spirits. He was an awesome dancer, not only did he spin and toss his hair, when he danced with any of us, would twirl us and make our hair flip...(I agree with Jordan Jones below, John was an icon. No one will ever forget. Peace to all. We all lost a sweet person.



I did not know John long, but like all, I knew he was a sweetheart and I am 
saddened by his passing. When I remember the fun we had at Phaces, your smiling beautiful face will always be there...  John, may you rest in peace! 



I don't even know where to begin. I've been staring at this blank page for about an hour, trying to find the words. But, only tears come.  John was such a wonderful, selfless, compassionate, loyal friend. He had this uncanny ability to make you smile and  to remember everyone's name.  I met John in '94 and have lost touch with him over the years, but I have always thought of him often. I may not be able to be there at his rosary physically, but he is definitely in my thoughts and has been since I heard the sad news yesterday morning. I am very happy to see so many nice memories left by his friends and family. I hope more show up tonight and honor him, as he would us.
 I love you John! 



Seeing John here and there over the years brightened any day.  His smile and sincerity will always color my memories of him.  Peace be with you John.



Like many who loved him, John and I grew up downtown in the greatest city ever. Back then there weren't write ups in magazines about how amazing Austin was or cable shows featuring our town. Those hadn't come yet. I promise you itâ€™s people like John who made this town the highly prized place it is today.  He had that uniqueness and ridiculous kindness that he could shoot at you across the room with only a look.  We lived in a scene where sorrow and darkness where worn like the latest fashions.  And whether you liked it or not, the second you saw Johnny walk up, you were "un-hip" with happiness. What I'm saying is he had a gift where he made you smile whether you liked it or not.  The world needs that. God bless you John. You will be missed.

You are one of the most beautiful people I know.  You have the kindest heart.  You were so graceful and kind to me.  I fell in love with you at first sight.  I didn't know you but I had sightings of you in Killeen and Austin and I was completely smitten.  I loved watching you dance.  It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen.  When we finally became friends, we would talk about my feelings for you which you handled with grace and understanding, kindness and appreciation in light of the awkwardness and became close friends.  When we lived on Penny Lane I remember the mornings we would laugh and play and figure out our day and night... and what do to with my hair and what to wear.   We were so young then.  You introduced me to Sky, Randy and Julia.  You changed my life in the most beautiful way and brought to it the most beautiful people.  I treasure our memories.  You brought light to my life.  You brought love ones to my life.   I love and will miss the way you always said "I love you" upon every greeting, every parting and many many times in between.  

I love you too.  



John, thank you for all the grooves you provided me those many years ago.  Though we haven't seen each other in nearly 20 years, you will always be a memory of my "good ole days" and a centerpiece in those stories.  RIP



I cannot begin to tell you how much it breaks my heart to even be writing this. John was truly one of the best people I have ever known & I have no doubt that his passing leaves a void in the lives of many, many people; both family & friends. My thoughts, prayers, & love go out to all of you.

I donâ€™t even remember what year we met, I just know that it was a long time ago â€“ before I was out of high school & thatâ€™s over 20 years now. I believe I loved John from the moment I met him. He was so warm & funny. His smile could light up any room & a hug from him could make all your troubles just melt away. He owned that dance floor; no one could hold a candle to Johnâ€™s moves, & we all knew it. And letâ€™s not forget that gorgeous hair â€“ oh how I coveted his hair!

When I was pregnant with my first son (now 19) I put on a lot of weight in the 2nd trimester. I remember going out dancing with all of the usual suspects & certain friends giving me a hard time about how huge I had become. And there was John, rubbing my belly & telling me how beautiful I was & spinning me around the dance floor. He just knew how to make you feel good.

When I moved to Portland in 2000 I lost touch with most of my friends from back then. Upon my return to Austin, I wasnâ€™t sure how to find many of the people I missed. So I was quite happy when I walked into a Mexican restaurant on South Congress one afternoon & John turned out to be my waiter! Since that time we had been in & out of touch, but he was never far from my thoughts. Some of my most cherished memories include John. As I sit here typing, I can still see his sparkling eyes, beautiful smile, & hear his laughter.

Cha Cha â€“ I love you & I am grateful to have known you. If thereâ€™s a dance floor in heaven, I know youâ€™re tearinâ€™ it up! 



I think about all the memories I have of you and they are all beautiful.  You were a true friend to all who's lives you touched, your smile lit up the room, your laugh made me smile, and boy o boy could you dance.  It saddens me that your life ended to early and you will be so missed by so many.  I know you are up there looking down on us with that smile.  You were an angel on earth and now you are an angel in Heaven.  Till we meet again my sweet old friend.  My heart love and prayers go out to your family and friends in this time of darkness.  You were truly loved!



John... I'm shocked to hear of your passing.  It has been 14 years since I have seen you, but you come to mind often. Just the other day I was thinking about you... Maybe that was God trying to tell me something!  All I know is that it hurts to think you are gone.  The more I hear the more it saddened me to think that our lives were constant passing shadows, but our paths never crossed. I wish they would have, at least once so we could have just caught-up on each others lives. One thing is for sure, your kindness and friendly ways transcended all these years even to this moment. When I met John I was just a girl and he was this amazing burst of light and positive energy.  He always made me and everyone he met feel special.  There were numerous times when seeing him literally made my night.  He was kind even when it wasn't cool and he was one of the best dancers I've ever seen.  Being near John made you feel as if, just for that moment, you shined as brightly as he did.  All my love to everyone he touched in his too short time.



I met John a lifetime ago as a DJ downtown....he was always smiling, dancing and bringing joy to those around him. We would often cross paths and he never failed to brighten my day. Peace be with you my friend, God bless...



Although it has been many years since I connected with John, I will remember him for being one of the most kindest, gentle and generous men I was blessed to ever know. You will always have a special place in my heart and memory, John. May you find the peace your sweet soul always deserved. Love, Anna. 



I first met John in the summer 1989 in Austin, we were all young, dumb, and full of fun, we had so many great times thru the years. He was always smiling and happy no matter what life threw at him. He was a kind, gentle spirit and was loved by many. Unfortunately death is a part of life, we all have to face it, it's sad to lose that earthly connection to a loved one, but if we're Christian then death should be a time to rejoice, as our suffering in this mortal coil is done, and we'll live forever in paradise with our loving Father, our Blessed Savior, and no more this wordly race we'll have to run. I know we'll meet in the sky again one day, until then rest in peace my brother.



John and I went to Reagan together and for a few years were good friends. From time to time over the years his smile and laugh would come to mind, and I would do a search for him. It is the news of his passing that brought him back into my lifeâ€¦and I'm so very sad for it.

If only he knewâ€¦if only we knew how many people love us and think about us everydayâ€¦maybe the fork in the road would take us to other places. 

I wish our paths had crossed just one more time.

I really never got to meet my big brother but I have so much love for him ! My mom aways let us know everything about him and how much she loves him !! Will always love and miss you big brother !!!!



I was 3 years younger than my Brother..........and we had barely gotten to know eachother. We found out we were so much alike......we were both alot like the birth mother we share. There was never a time my Mother failed to tell me of the son she so missed......I am so lucky to have gotten to bond with my brother.......and just want to tell all his friends THANK YOU for being there for my Big Brother........God Bless you all........



He was such a nice guy,and I too wished I couldve seen him these last few years. Saw him last at a gas station, and he was his same smiley self when I worked with him. Told me I looked pretty, but that was him. haha. 



I met John when I was in 9th grade at Reagan High School. We became fast friends and "dated". He lived around the corner from me. We would hang out at his house and listen to music and laugh. And we would drive around in his car with nothing to do but we had a blast doing nothing.

We continued to hang out and be friends for many many years. We had exciting adventures. He was one of my best friends for a very long time. I have too many memories to pick a favorite. He was such a great friend, and he always took very good care of his friends. He had so much love to give.

I am grateful that we got to re-connect last year and that I got to see him and spend some time with him.
