

John "Hanky" Alvarado Jr. passed to rest on December 10, 2015. Mr. Alvarado was born on March 23, 1934 in Austin, TX and has been a lifelong resident of South Austin. Growing up Mr. Alvarado attended Fulmore Middle School and Austin High School where he excelled in athletics and academics before choosing to serve his country in the United States Army. During his years of service Mr. Alvarado was stationed in multiple locations. He served in the Korean War and received multiple honors including the Purple Heart.
Mr. Alvarado was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Josephine Bargas Alvarado, mother and father Micaela Diana Solis and John H. Alvarado Sr., his sister Andrea Guerrero, daughter Sylvia Gonzales and sons Fred Saucedo and Paul Alvarado. Mr. Alvarado is survived by his siblings Theresa Cermeno, Margarita Alvarado, Robert Henry Alvarado, Lee David Alvarado and Lee Solis Jr. as well as children Rachel Saucedo, Cindy Alvarado Salinas, John Alvarado III and spouse Gina, Patricia "Tisha" Alvarado and spouse Ralph Barrios as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Alvarado was lovingly referred to as Hanky or Popo by family and friends and could often be found rooting for his New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys or Texas Longhorns in addition to supporting his grandkids and great grandkids at their many events.
Visitation will be held at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home (2620 S. Congress Ave. Austin, TX) on Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 5 pm to 7 pm with a wake service to follow at 7 pm. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, December 14, 2015 at Assumption Cemetery (3650 S IH 35 Frontage Rd. Austin, TX). Pallbearers will be Beau James Butler, David Garcia, Edward Salinas Jr., Julian Montoya III, Andrew Michael Alvarado, Jason Eric Alvarado and Graham Carter.
