

After many years of dedicated service, John retired from the Austin Fire Department. He was a loving, caring Christian person and would always lend a hand when needed.
John was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 56 years, Mildred Carpenter; and son, Randy Wayne Carpenter. He will be sadly missed by his loving family of three daughters; Cindy Carpenter, Diane Myers, and Janette Layton and husband, Steve Rio; grandchildren, Chris Layton and wife, Amy, Jimmy Dale Porter, Danielle Landreth and husband, Josh, Charles Meyer, and Jon Michael Nunez and wife, Kristian; great-grandchildren, Reese Layton, Levi Layton, and Adrian Shaw; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, December 29, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Oak Hill, 6907 Convict Hill Road with Pastor Rob Satterfield and Pastor Dwight Reagan officiating. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
