

John Samuel Damuth, Jr. was called to his heavenly home on Thursday August 27, 2009 surrounded by his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 66 years, Mary Ellen Damuth, Sons John Samuel Damuth, III, Larry Dale and wife Carey Ann Damuth, Daughter Patricia Ann and Son-in-law Marvin Dale Shelton. Grandsons Jeremy Saul Damuth, Richard Blaine Langley, Matthew Colter Damuth, Granddaughters Melissa Ann Damron, Summer Camille Damuth, Angela Faye Trevino and husband Edward Lee Trevino, Great Granddaughters Malinda Damron and Ellie Damuth, Great Grandsons William Damron and Raziel Lee Trevino. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was born January 12, 1918, outside of Magnolia, Texas at home on the prairie to John Samuel Damuth, Sr. and Clarkie Belle Damuth. He was raised in a Christian home with 3 brothers and 3 sisters. He was the only living member of his family. John joined the Army in 1939 after graduating from Magnolia High School and was honorably discharged as a disabled veteran in 1942. He was employed by the Pitney Bowes Mailing Machine Company in Houston, and was sent to open the office in Austin four months later. After retiring in 1979 after 37 years of service John & Mary enjoyed fishing, gardening and working with the seniors at Allandale Baptist Church. In 1983 they moved to Onalaska, Texas to live on Lake Livingston by Mary's sister and brother in law, Bob and Faye Goodson. There they enjoyed fishing and working with the Cornerstone Adult group at the First Baptist Church. In 1992 they moved back to Austin to be closer to their family. He was a member of the Woodcliff Baptist Church. John enjoyed teaching and studying God's word and was a devout spiritual warrior for his Lord Jesus Christ. He loved to tell the story of God's love for everyone. He loved watching the Astros play, feeding the birds and most of all his hummingbirds and could attract them wherever he lived. Many of his last mornings and evenings were enjoyed on the back porch at his daughter's home where he had lived. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2009 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78705, with Reverend David Lay officiating. The burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at the Mostyn-Damuth family cemetery on the prairie near Magnolia, Texas, with Reverend Don Wilkie officiating.
