John was born in Corpus Christi to Jack and Jean Eddins. They spent several years in San Antonio before moving to Austin in 1964 where he met his future wife Rickie in the Lamar Middle School band. John graduated from McCallum High School in 1969. He attended the University of Texas majoring in Radio Television and Film, and played trombone in The Longhorn Band. John started his career at Tracor, moved to a position at KMFA Radio rising to station manager, and finally called Dynastat Inc. home where he was lab manager. He was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 410, where he earned Eagle Scout, order of the arrow, and attended National Jamboree. John was a charter member of the Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees and played an instrumental role in developing and running the church sound system. He was also dedicated to the West Austin Rotary Club, served as president of his chapter and remained lifelong friends with many fellow members.
John married Rickie Cooper on June 1, 1974. They have two daughters, which brought them two loving sons-in-law and four vibrant grandchildren. John’s passion for his family was expressed through endless family trips to the Frio River, coaching sports teams, chaperoning band events, and being an active PTA member. When not with family he could be found immersed in photography, woodworking and remodeling his corvette. Those who knew John may refer to him as Mr. Fix-It as he could repair just about anything. He also had a strong fascination with all things technology/media and would spend countless hours recording and editing videos and music.
John is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Jean Eddins and brother Jim Eddins. He is survived by his wife of 49 years Rickie; daughter Jennifer and husband Michael Vissers; daughter Jacqueline and husband Gabriel Bramlette; grandchildren Alexa, Stella and Norah Vissers and Tommy Bramlette; brother Jeff Eddins and wife Heidi; and sister-in-law Emily Eddins and nephew Michael Eddins.
