Born to John Henry Luttrell, Sr. and Mary Frances Quehl, John grew up in Baton Rouge, LA. As a boy, he joined his school band and a local football team, kickstarting life-long passions for music and football.
As a young adult, John got heavily into weightlifting and martial arts. During his time training, he earned multiple black belts across the country and won awards at various tournaments over the years.
In recent years, John discovered a love for creating videos for his YouTube channel. Though he originally focused on reviewing survival gear, he soon branched out into discussing life struggles and philosophy.
Many people met John during his tenure as a restaurant manager, where he built a reputation as a stern but kind-hearted leader. Over the years, he earned the respect of countless co-workers and customers, many becoming lifelong friends drawn to his straightforward nature and contagious sense of humor.
Whether it was seeing Black Sabbath in an arena, watching a local band at a small venue, or sitting on his balcony with headphones, a drink, and a cigar, every possible moment of his life was filled with music. His favorite bands include Black Sabbath, Motley Crue, and the Dropkick Murphys, but his interests stretch across a wide range of genres with a soft spot for great drumline/marching band performances.
"Big John" was predeceased by his father John Sr. and mother Mary, and is remembered by sons Colin and Jonathan, daughter Nikki, grandsons Tristian and Easton, granddaughters Aurora and "Monkey", and the untold number of lives he has touched over the years.
Memorial services will be held on February 12, 2022 from 10am - Noon at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Please come and share your best memories of John.
