John began working for IBM at the age of 17, remaining with the division through its subsequent corporate transitions. Eventually, his professional path led him to St. Andrew's Episcopal School as the Transportation Director, where he dedicated his time until very recently.
John, along with his wife Debbie, generously volunteered with the Travis County Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy, and John proudly served as President of the Travis County Sheriff’s Citizens Academy Alumni for a time.
A devoted member of Woodcliff Baptist Church, John served faithfully as a church deacon and led many Bible studies and lessons over the years. His extensive Bible notes remain a beautiful testament to his deep desire to grow closer to Christ.
Outside of his service, John loved simple getaways with Debbie to Fredericksburg and the beach and spending time with his daughter Jennifer and her family. Above all, John cherished being a "PawPaw" to his four grandchildren. Whether he was cheering them on at their sports games or just spending quality time together, he delighted in telling them epic whopper stories—some true, and some not.
John was preceded in death by his father, John T. Richardson; his mother, Ruby Bruner; and many of his beloved aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Debbie Richardson; his daughter, Jennifer Carpenter, and her husband, Charles; and his four grandchildren: Calhan Carpenter and his wife, Caitlynne; Kyndal Carpenter and her fiancé, Garrett Castillo; Justin Carpenter; and Colton Carpenter. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Hellman, and her husband, David; his sister-in-law, Cindy Kelly; his brother-in-law, Robert White; as well as a large, loving extended family of precious nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, an aunt, and many cousins.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the following organizations for their immense compassion and care during this time: Woodcliff Baptist Church, the staff of St.
Andrew's Episcopal School, St. David’s North Austin Hospital, Texas Oncology, and Austin Hospice.
