John Walter Stokes

Johnny was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth. He is survived by his father, John and his brother, James of Waco; his aunt, Edna (Reue) Moeller and husband Waldo of Brenham; his cousin, Matthew Reue and his children Claire and Colin of Brenham; his cousin David Reue and wife Susan of Austin and their children Rachel and Andrew.

Johnny was raised in Houston and was a graduate of Ross Sterling High School. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in December 1973. He was employed by the State of Texas at several agencies for over 38 years where he retired from the Department of Human Services. Most recently, he was employed by the Texas Health and Human Service Commission as a contractor where he brought his many years of talent and experience. He took great pride in his job and in serving the citizens of Texas. He had many cherished friends from his years with the State and he will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Friday, June 25, 2010 at 3:00 in the afternoon. The family requests that donations be made to the Town Lake Animal Shelter 1156 W.
