John David Tomme

David was born February 28, 1941 in Valley Spring, Texas to Earnest B. Tomme and Letha Hope Cowand Tomme. They moved to Llano, Texas when he was four years old where he attended Llano High School, playing tuba in the marching band and graduating in 1959.

After moving to Austin, he met the love of his life, Wanda Whitehead, marrying her on June 22, 1962,

and enjoying the next fifty-one and a half years of his life being her devoted husband. Their two

children, Kathy, and John Vance, along with his two grandchildren, Maggie and Matthew, were sources

of great pride, love and devotion for him.

David served in the Army Reserves and was a Systems Analyst for the State of Texas, working first at the

Texas Highway Department, ultimately retiring from the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1995 after

thirty years of service.

David’s friendly personality and warm demeanor caused him to be loved by all who knew him. He never met a stranger, making friends with all his neighbors during his daily walks. A faithful Christian, David attended the Schlutz Avenue Church of Christ in Pflugerville (formerly the Wonsley Drive Congregation in Austin) for over 50 years. His passing leaves large holes in all our hearts.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Donald and sister Dolly Jo. He is survived by his

wife, Wanda, daughter Kathy Elliott, son-in-law Jere Elliott, his son John Vance Tomme, daughter-in-law

Shauna Tomme and grandchildren Maggie Elliott and Matthew Tomme.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, on Sunday, the 11th of January 2014, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.

A Funeral service will be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 13th of January, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Liberty Hill Cemetery, Liberty Hill, Texas.
