Johnnie W. Hamaker Alvarez, age 73, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2007 in Austin, Texas. She was a resident of San Antonio from 1964 to 1999. Mrs. Alvarez was a military wife and homemaker, and was active in the deaf community in San Antonio for many years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Rosalio "Carlos" Alvarez, her mother, Lela Mae Wiliford of Ball, LA, and her sisters, Velma Gallant Roy of Hessmer, LA, and Wilma Allison of Little Rock, AR. She is survived by her brother, Kenneth R. Cloninger of Alexandria, LA; daughters, Wanda Pena and husband Bill of Austin, TX, Piper V. Dye of Richmond, MO, Dominga R. Williams and her husband James of Cheyenne, WY; 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be at Weed Corley-Fish Funeral Home, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM on Wednesday, May 30. A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Thursday, May 31 at Clark Chapel Hispanic Cemetery in McMahan, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association or the Texas School for the Deaf.
