Jon was born on February 24, 1961 to the late Dorothy and Johnnie E. Mogonye, and made Austin his lifelong home.
Jon was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy, father, Johnnie Mogonye and an infant sister. He is survived by his aunt, Carol Lantzsch of Taylor, cousins Klint Lantzsch (and wife Gayla), Stanley Lantzsch (and wife Gladys) and Jamie Lantzsch (and wife Lisa). Jon was honorary uncle to Ashley Lantzsch of Temple, TX and Byron Lantzsch of Seattle, WA. Jon had many friends who will remember him fondly.
Jon had a kind heart and was always willing to go out of his way to help someone. His hobbies were gardening and Texas Longhorn football. A boy scout himself and a former Explorer president he later became an assistant scoutmaster assisting young boys with their goals. Jon worked for the IRS for over 25 years and was well liked and respected by his peers.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 28, 2026 at Faith Lutheran Church at 1:00 pm. Jon’s wish was to be cremated so there will be no viewing prior to the service.
