Jonathan Michael Hotz, 5, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, January 3, 2019.

Jonny was born September 7, 2013 in Austin, Texas. He was born with a heart defect that necessitated surgery to correct it when he was eight months old. He was in Kindergarten and excited to do school each day and especially eager to do Math.

Johnny was often described by his parents as “all boy” and loved anything outside; playing on the trampoline, zipline, and just enjoyed being a kid in the backyard. He loved all his siblings immensely and was always wanting to take part in their games and play with them.

He absolutely adored his baby brother, David. He knew that the two of them were named after the brothers-of-the-heart in the Bible. He was proud of that and, from the time we knew the baby was a boy, would say "he's my brother and my friend”.

His favorite resting activity was watching Phineas and Ferb cartoons and he loved the Minions from the Despicable Me movies. He was notorious for wearing mismatched black(ish) socks to Church.

Jonathan is survived (and dearly missed) by his parents, Chris and Kelly Hotz; his siblings, Catherine (15y), Samuel (12y), Mary (9y), Esther (6y), and David (21m); paternal grandparents, John and Marion Hotz; maternal grandparents, Mike and Lyn Ferguson; aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.

A Celebration of Jonny’s Life will begin at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at St. Paul Catholic Church, 10000 David Moore Dr. in Austin. Interment will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.

As green was Jonny's color, the family invites you to join them in wearing or accenting with that color.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions to be made in Jonny’s memory to the American Heart Association or to the Ronald McDonald House.

I had the privileged during the 2018 Santa Cruz parish festival to shuttle the family from the parking area to the grounds. I remember how excited Jonathan was when he saw my golf cart. During the ride I could hear laughter, Jonathan laughed the loudest. I remember asking the family if they wanted me to drive faster and Jonathan said, "Yes faster!" I loved his joy and laughter. My deepest sympathy to you all. I will be praying for Jonathan and your family.

Eternal rest grant unto him , O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him forever

In Christ
