JoQuita Elizabeth Schremmer passed away October 22, 2024, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by friends, wonderful neighbors and loved ones in her adopted home of Round Rock, Texas. Born December 19, 1958, to Wilhelm (Bill) and Margaret (Driscoll) Schremmer, she was the youngest of nine children raised on a small farm outside of WaKeeney Kansas. Growing up in a large, noisy family, JoQuita was usually the quiet one but quickly outgrew this when she went off to college where she earned her bachelor’s in nursing degree and forged lifelong friendships.
JoQuita moved to the Austin area shortly after graduation and fell in love with the people and the Austin vibe. She developed a strong group of friends who regularly got together for great music, food, laughter and dancing. Her friends, including her close friend from her college days, were by her side every step of the journey through her treatment. JoQuita was proud to consider herself a single cat lady. She was as passionate about her beloved pets as she was about caring for the numerous people during her decades of nursing. She was on the forefront of treatment during the AIDS epidemic and later spent thousands of hours as a hospice nurse and at the Christopher House as an oncology nurse, providing care and comfort to individuals diagnosed with breast cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.
Her loving family including numerous nieces and nephews ask that you celebrate her life in the way she wanted to be remembered by raising a toast, sharing favorite memories, laughing, and per her specific request, ending the party dancing.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Hospice Austin’s Christopher House and/or Hope Alliance in Round Rock.
